About
Who We Are and What We Do
For over 6 years, ArtsWORK Indiana has been dedicated to making creative careers more accessible to adults and young people challenged by disability. We are an informal, statewide network of artists, educators, vocational professionals, and cultural organizations that provides:
- career-related information and networking
- peer-to-peer encouragement
- increased awareness of Hoosier artists with disabilities and their contributions
Our participants range from just-emerging artists to experienced professionals, in varied art fields, with and without disabilities. ArtsWORK works closely with our statewide partner organizations and encourages leadership by people with disabilities.
ArtsWORK Indiana wants to make our state a place where people with disabilities have an opportunity to use their creative talents and get paid for it!
Activities and Awards
- ArtsWORK Indiana sponsors quarterly gatherings for participants in Indianapolis and monthly satellite meetings in Bloomington. An Advisory Committee holds monthly phone conferences. These events are free and open to the public.
- A monthly e-newsletter contains highlights of happenings and newly added online resources. In between, you’ll find fresh updates and a venue for conversations on our Facebook page.
- By way of the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC), ArtsWORK Indiana has received funding for several statewide initiatives from the National Arts and Disability Center and the National Endowment for the Arts. An initial grant partially supported our well-attended Forum on Careers in the Arts in 2004, with follow-up grants in subsequent years to develop this website, sponsor a series of career skills workshops in 6 cities and, in 2010, establish two regional satellite groups.
- The National Assembly of State Arts Agencies presented the 2009 National Access Leadership Award to the IAC in recognition of ArtsWORK Indiana’s accomplishments. Through a competitive individual grant process, the IAC re-distributed the cash award accompanying this honor to 14 Indiana artists with disabilities.
